GMA daydreaming about jobs

The Alliance of Progressive Labor takes exceptional offense to GMA's arrogant and hypocritical claim that jobs are available and that workers merely needed to be willing to start from the bottom.

"She will deny the crisis in the jobs situation because she knows very well that it is the continued thrust towards liberalization and deregulation of her administration that is pushing more and more workers out into the streets," said APL Secretary-General Josua Mata.

"Workers are not choosy, as GMA and her stooges such as Sec. Peter Favila would have us believe," Mata added. "But because figures from last year alone show that jobs are being destroyed in sectors that are more sustainable and integral to genuine development and growth."

Last year NSO data showed that the fishing sector lost 5,000 jobs, manufacturing 18,000, health and social work 32,000 and construction 32,000. "Instead of putting in place a truly comprehensive and pro-people industrialization jobs that will protect jobs, GMA would rather flaunt call center jobs and rely on OFW remittances," added Mata.

"Those left in the country are left with jobs that do not give security of tenure," explained Mata. "Six or even four months down the road, contractual workers are left back out on the streets, so whatever jobs are supposedly created by the administration are mere replacements, and not really new ones."

"Job fairs are not sufficient to meet demand with supplies," said Mata. "Job fairs are just photo-ops for GMA's hallowed 10-Point Agenda. What low quality jobs are offered therein do not ensure full employment since the problems that gave rise to the jobs deficit are firmly in place, first and foremost is GMA."
